Lotta Mansfield
15yrs old and recently just competed in the European Youth Mountain bike Championships in Italy

What has been your best result in 2018?
‘This season I won the Mallory Park Road Race League and I’ve had consistent results in the National MTB Series. I also have had wins at regional MTB races.’

Most ‘fun’ race of 2018?
‘My happiest result was in the 6 Day Assen Youth International in Holland because I came down in a crash on the cobbles and lost contact with the lead group. I was over the moon to finish in group 2 because the broom wagon has a harsh cut off time. It wasn’t my best result, but I was so happy to finish, and it was tough to get to the end! I really felt all my work with my training helped me to finish’.

How did the European MTB Championships go?
I really enjoyed Europeans in Italy. I loved the course, it was nothing like you would get in the UK because it was more extreme and was also at altitude, so it was a great experience. I enjoyed the XC race because there was a crowd all round the course and I felt strong during the race. It was a really great experience and I hope to go again next year.

How has the coaching with Ciara MacManus helped you the most?
With Ciara I have been working on my starts, this really helped me at Europeans as there were 100 riders in my race so I needed a good start to get a good position into the first technical line.

What is the next big goal heading into the winter and spring 2019?
This cyclocross season I really hope to get onto a National podium at one of the National Trophy races. I’ve been trying to get a podium for a long time and I hope with my training this will happen this season.

Finn Mansfield
17yrs old 1st year Junior competing in International events

What has been your best result in 2018?
‘I'd say that my best result was a 7th in the prologue at 6 Day Assen Youth International in Holland I really wasn't expecting it, so it was a bit of a surprise!’

Most ‘fun’ race of 2018?
‘I’d say that my happiest result was getting an 8th in a Belgium Kermess, I got in the break for the last 40km and we managed to stay away to the finish. It was after another 90km race the day before where I came 15th, attacking in the crosswind. Again, the most recent result was Assen where I came 13th overall (6 stage race). I rode a GC race and focused on the TT, the point to point was the hardest race as I had to chase back onto the bunch after the cobbles.’

What is you favourite discipline, Road, MTB, CycloX and why?
My favourite discipline must be cyclo-cross. I just really enjoy the mud, talking about lines and technique through corners, playing with different tyre pressures and equipment. The racing is brutal and unforgiving which is awesome!

How has the coaching with Ciara MacManus helped you the most?
I think that the most help has been the monthly recap session that we do with Ciara. It means that the training is personalised and really motivating to do. The coaching itself showed me that taking a break from racing to train and improve is a really a good thing.

What is the next big goal heading into the winter and spring 2019?
My big goal for the Winter is going to try to podium at one of the national trophies this season. I'll be a top year junior, so it will be my chance to shine! It's going to be tough and challenging but exciting as I can't wait to be fighting it out at the front of the field.
